5 gedenkwaardige 4x4 routes om te ontdekken in Zuid-Afrika

Ben je op zoek naar een Zuid-Afrikaanse 4×4 ‘self-drive’ safari? Een die onvergetelijke herinneringen achterlaat? Hier zijn zelfs 5 4×4 routes die het waard zijn om te ontdekken voor je volgende ‘off road’ avontuur.

Sani Pass, Drakensberg

Sani Pass is een route van Kwazulu Natal tot in de ‘mountain Kingdom’ van Lesotho. Het is een route met schitterende uitzichten, en het is er zeker een voor de Bucket List.

Tevens is de route op de lijst van World Heritage. De route start op zo’n 1544 meter hoogte, en gaat alsnog 1332 meter omhoog. Er zijn zelfs wegen waar alleen een 4×4 op kan rijden. In de winter is vaak de weg gesloten door de weersomstandigheden. Dit maakt de zomer een betere tijd om hierheen te reizen. Onthoud ook dat je jouw paspoort nodig hebt om Lesotho in te gaan. Als je eenmaal daar bent, kun je jouw schoenen uitgooien en genieten in Afrika’s hoogste pub in de Sani Mountain Lodge.

Knysna Forest 4×4 trail

Deze route is gelegen in de Garden Route National Park. De route brengt je in het diepe inheemse bos gevuld met torenhoge Yellowwood bomen, beken en reizigers kunnen hier vele vogelsoorten spotten.

Deze 4×4 trail brengt je dichtbij een gebied waar een neergestorte helikopter al voor 7 jaar ligt. Verder vind je hier ook een oude, smalle treinrails die gebruikt werd voor het transporteren van hout want dat werd namelijk hier gekapt in voorgaande eeuwen.

Baviaans Kouga 4×4 – Oost-Kaap Park

Deze 4×4 route biedt je een schilderachtige weg aan. Baviaans Kouga staat ook op de  werelderfgoed lijst dus deze weg zal automatisch voor schitterende natuur beelden zorgen.

It’s stated that the Fynbos 4×4 route can be navigated in a 2 wheel truck or bakkie however this is said to be a far more viable option if one is in a 4×4 vehicle. Kagga Kamma Nature Reserve – Central Karoo, Western Cape

The Karoo has so much desolate beauty that it has kept people coming back year in and year out.
