The Five Things You Have To Do On Your South Africa Trip

With our rich history and diversity, it’s easy to see why South Africa is one of the top tourist destinations in the world. We have the most beautiful coastlines, a picking of bird and animal life, heart-stopping views, and spectacular fauna and flora.

It is challenging to choose, but I’ve included my top five things that are a
MUST when visiting our beautiful country.

See Africa’s Big Five

Few things would top a morning Safari, armed with a steaming hot cup of coffee, or the herds of magnificent animals migrating to the calm waters on a peaceful summer evening for a drink of water.

The Big Five includes Elephant, Lion, Rhino, Leopard, and Buffalo and is a must-see on your South African trip so indulge with at least one luxury lodge experience.

Some popular parks that offer all five are The Kruger National Park (Mpumalanga), Pilanesberg Game Reserve (North West Province), Hluhluwe-Imfolozi (KwaZulu-Natal), and Shamwari Game Reserve (Eastern Cape).

Explore the Cape Winelands District

South Africa is blessed with some of the top winemakers in the world, and our award-winning wines grace the shelves of many countries.

Do yourself a favour and venture past the familiar Stellenbosch and Paarl region towards Worcester, Robertson, and Montagu.  You’ll be welcomed with not only breathtaking surroundings but also excellent tasting opportunities like the Graham Beck MCC range or the Red Muscadel from Bon Courage.

Try the local cuisine

With so many influences, it’s difficult to sum the South African cuisine up in one paragraph, but one thing we can guarantee is that it is packed with flavour.

Think Bobotie, Boerewors, Waterblommetjie Bredie, Bunny Chow, Pap, and Melktert or indulge in the freshest seafood or exotic meats like a crocodile or ostrich steak.
With such a variety of options, you’re not likely to have the same meal twice.

Experience the view from Table Mountain

The most popular way up the mountain is via cable car, but there are several hiking trails that will also lead you to the top.  Once you are at the top you will literally have Cape Town at your feet.

The views are spectacular, and on a clear day, you can see the whole Peninsula, Robben Island, beautiful beaches, and more. Try to stay for a sunset view when the sky turns shades of deep red, orange, and purple. The photo opportunities will be endless.

Spend some time at the coast

Take a drive up the coast – any coast – and stay a few nights.

West Coast where you’ll find charming seaside towns and an abundance of fresh seafood
The Garden route offers nature and birdlife at its best with beautiful forest accommodations and exceptional surfing opportunities.

The Wild Coast with kilometres of rugged and unspoiled coastline that stretches along clear bays, lagoons, and rocky landscapes.

The easiest way to explore our beautiful country is by car rental and Drive South Africa has some amazing deals that will leave you with plenty of money in your pocket for souvenirs. And my final word to you – have a proper braai!
