This is the smartest way to ensure a fantastic holiday or weekend getaway. Easter Weekend and Freedom Day

April, as always, offers a wealth of public holidays. With Good Friday on 3 April, Family Day on 6 April, and Freedom Day on Monday, 27 April, the calendar is working in your favour. Make sure to book your leave around these dates.

If planned strategically, it’ll be the perfect length for a full Garden Route exploration. Pick up a car hire in Cape Town and explore the forests of Knysna or the beaches of Plettenberg Bay. You can soak it all up at a leisurely pace.

  • The Hack: Take leave from 28 to 30 April. Since Workers’ Day (1 May) falls on a Friday, taking just 3 days of leave provides you with a massive 10-day holiday from Saturday, 25 April, to Sunday, 3 May.

Youth Day: 16 June

Winter is officially here, and the cold, damp air can often be a bit of a downer. Especially during those long office commutes. A mid-month break is the perfect remedy for the winter blues. Gather your friends and family for a group weekend getaway and head to the Drakensberg to catch some snow or enjoy a relaxed mountain hike.

Women’s Day: Sunday, 9 August (Monday Observed)

After the myriad of public holidays in the first half of the year, you might be wondering when the next public holiday in South Africa is. Fortunately, the wait for National Women’s Day is not a long one!

Because women’s day falls on a Sunday, Monday (10 August) becomes a public holiday. This is the ideal time for a quick winter break. Make the most of the dry weather in the Kruger National Park with a self-drive safari. This is one of the best times of the year to see wildlife. Vegetation is thin, and animals gather around waterholes, making them easier to spot.

Heritage Day: 24 September

Celebrate our Rainbow Nation by exploring our beautiful backyard. With spring in full swing, it’ll be the perfect time to witness the blossoming flowers of Namaqualand, Cederberg, or the West Coast National Park. It’s the ideal way to say goodbye to the winter blues! Iconic blooms include proteas, Namaqualand daisies, Ericas, babianas, and Ixias. A reliable car or 4×4 is the perfect way to explore this scenic stretch of the country.
