Mpumlanga is a province in the east of South Africa, bordering Swaziland and Mozambique. It is known for its abundant wildife especially the Kruger National Park and the Blyde River Canyon.

Best time to visit Mpumalanga

The best time to visit Mpumalanga is in the months of March and April in terms of weather as there is a low chance of rain and temperatures are pleasant. The best times for game viewing are always the winter months betwwen May to August.

Where to Stay in Mpumalanga


Nelspruit

Nelspruit (Mbombela) is the capital city of Mpumalanga. Most visitors will land in Joburg and catch a connecting flight to Nelpruit on the way to see the Blyde River Canyon which is said to be the world largest green canyon. The canyon stretches over 26km and is 800m deep.


Sabie Park or Skukuza

The Sabie Park Area or Skukuza area is where you would stay if you are visiting the southern part of the Kruger National Park. Skukuza is known as the “capital city” of the Kruger National Park.

Around the Area

Mpumalanga is known for the Kruger National Park and the Blyde River Canyon. You will need to hire a car after you land at the airport or drive to Mpumalanga with a car to explore the 26 kilometre long canyon to see different natural wonders such as The Three Rondavels, Kadishi Tufa Waterfalls, The Pinnacle, God’s Window, Bourkes’s Luck Potholes and the Echo Caves.
