Cape Town’s most popular horse racing meet is the annual J&B Met. It will be taking place at the Kenilworth Racecourse on Saturday the 29th of January.
The J&B Met began in 1883 when it was still known as the Metropolitan Mile. The race became more popular when J&B Met stepped in to sponsor the Met in 1978 and made it the grand event it is today.
More than 50 000 people come to revel in the thrill of galloping hooves, the mighty thoroughbreds, the sports betting and of course the eccentric and grand outfits on display.
The 2011 J&B Met theme is ‘Larger than Life – Massive outfits, oversized accessories and gigantic personalities’. The J&B Met is an event for everyone from the rich and famous, to fashion addicts and horse races lovers. The event is the first highlight on the 2011 calendar, look out for outrageous fashion and best-dressed competitions.
This is a huge social event and quite a spectacle. Ticket cost R165 and are available online at WebTickets and at the TabGold Stores or at several Cock ‘n Bull stores. A share of the sales profit goes to the Kenilworth Conservation Area, to include the Cape Fynbos in the conservation area.
