Improving on 4×4 Rental Perfection

The Land Cruiser HJ 76 4x4 rental with seven doors.

Instead of five doors, the HJ 76 has seven

For decades, the Toyota Land Cruiser 76 has remained the undefeated “Master of Africa”. Overlanders, engineers, and farmers alike consider it the ultimate off-roader. Africa on Wheels’ Land Cruiser HJ 76 features the iconic Toyota V8 diesel engine, making it more than capable of tackling hardcore 4×4 routes.

But this isn’t just any Land Cruiser. It solves a major 4×4 hire problem: what if you have a big family? With the HJ 76, Africa on Wheels has the solution. It can seat up to eight passengers without camping equipment. If you want rooftop tents, it can accommodate up to six pax in three tents.

It does all of this without compromising on off-road ability. So, even though it has seven doors instead of five, it still has:

  • Four-wheel drive
  • Diff-lock
  • Power steering
  • All-terrain tyres
  • A 130 l diesel tank
  • Off-road snorkel

Africa on Wheels also equips it with essential off-roading recovery equipment:

  • Fire extinguisher
  • Two spare wheels
  • Vehicle jack
  • Air compressor
  • Jumper cables
  • Tow rope

Does This 4×4 Rental Come With Camping Equipment?

The Land Cruiser HJ 76 4x4 rental in Namibia.

It may be long, but that doesn’t mean it’s not tough

We can supply the Land Cruiser HJ 76 with a wide range of camping equipment to make your self-drive safari adventure as comfortable as possible. If you opt for rooftop tents, you’ll receive a vehicle pre-fitted with the equipment.

How Do You Set Up a Rooftop Tent?

You can have your rooftop accommodation ready in a few quick steps. Naturally, the more hands involved, the quicker it’ll go.

  • First, unzip the tent cover and lift it over the tent
  • Unfasten any velcro straps holding the tent down
  • Grab the ladder and pull, unfolding the tent
  • Extend the ladder and secure it on the ground – this will support some of the weight
  • Use the steel poles to prop up the rain cover

It’s that simple. In fact, it should only take you a few minutes at most.

What Other Camping Equipment is Included with 4×4 Hire?

Africa on Wheels equips its 4×4 campers with everything from crockery and cutlery to bedding and sleeping bags. You’ll also get useful items like a washing-up bowl, tablecloth, and a kettle.

Furthermore, you’ll have access to the following equipment:

  • Pots and pans
  • Braai utensils
  • A 25 l water can
  • A neon lamp
  • Folding chairs
  • A folding table
  • A 3 kg gas bottle
  • A cooker top
  • A 12 V refrigerator

Simply put, the Africa on Wheels Land Cruiser HJ 76 has everything you need for a 4×4 self-drive safari in southern Africa.
